Walton Bridge heading up river, Walton on Thames, Surrey

We parked next to Gino‘s again but this time went under the bridge, past the marina and over the footbridge to the towpath.

After half a mile we  turned right, into a park where there were several benches and we found a blue plaque on the building where Arthur Sullivan once lived. We could have carried on along the river on the Thames Path to Sunbury Lock and beyond.

We walked back towards Walton and pased the local theatre where the cafe makes great claims but we hadn’t got any money with us so couldn’t try it out, but we did find another blue plaque for Jerome Kern.

Then we turned back to the river and passed the Swan pub which has plenty of space outside for sitting with the dog.

The towpath gives great views across the Thames towards some very smart looking homes and is quiet enough to let the dog off the lead for some stretches.

  1. Safe for dogs that won’t jump in the river though some sections go close to roads.
  2. Benches.
  3. Bins.
  4. Dog friendly pubs and cafes.
  5. Reasonably good paths though some slopes such as the footbridge and going up into the park.
