Cranford Park, Hillingdon, Middlesex

Cranford Park is a huge flat space surrounded by wooded areas and bounded by a couple of streams. It is accessed via a small turning off M4 J3/The Parkway (A312) roundabout that is a bit easy to miss. Drive over a bridge and along to the church to find the free car park.

It’s very easy to spend over an hour doing a circuit of the whole space.

There are a few remnants of the original estate to explore, mostly in the north east corner. From the stable block it is possible to go under the M4 and into the more densely wooded site of the original house.

The splendidly named Frog’s Ditch is a good place to cool off on a hot summer’s day, though not so appealing in February. As is the rather wider River Crane.

There are no services at Cranford but there are seats dotted around. On a summer Sunday it is very popular, with games being played in the open address and cyclists on the paths through the woods.
