St Ann’s Hill, Chertsey, Surrey

I’ve been debating whether to add this lovely site as I have heard some horror stores about dogs getting on to the motorway which is close by.

If your dog is good on lead or is great at staying close though, it’s a fabulous site to explore.

There is a very small car park off St Ann’s Hill Road with a gate to restrict access; there is a no cycling or riding rule.

From there you can walk up a gentle slope to the top of the hill, site of an old fort, which is fairly flat, has benches and bins, and offers some great views across Surrey.

The south east corner of this flat area has a gentle path down to the Dingle, and more benches, where there is also a water point.

Going up away from the little house in the Dingle a path turns left and then leads along the side of a field and a choice of routes into the woodland.

Or you can try to find the strange little water feature.

This, however is where both the M3 and the M25 are very close to the paths, and the fencing is not secure.

It’s a fairly long walk on winding paths but gradually you’ll make your way back west, then south and will come to the area below the path from the gate to the car park.

We’ve been a few times now and have probably only seen ten people in total. If your dog stays close, we definitely recommend it. There’s even a pub nearby on St Ann’s Hill Road. (And keep your eyes peeled for some interesting wildlife!)

  1. Safe for some dogs
  2. Free
  3. All day access
  4. Parking
  5. Pub nearby
  6. Very dog friendly if you stay in the top area or the Dingle
  7. Bins
  8. Benches
  9. Fairly flat with paths, some hilly sections and very steep away from the main areas.
